Several years ago there was a song by U2 entitled, “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking for” that epitomized a lot of the feelings that many people have today. They are searching for something: something better, something more, something to make them feel better, look better, make more money, feel more alive, etc. They are also searching for real truth, for honesty, for things of eternal value and substance, etc.

Much of the advertising enticements of our world today promise similar results if you’ll just buy their product. Just think how popular you will be if you’re seen wearing these designer clothes. Just imagine how wonderful you will feel after you drink this drink. You can resemble Michael Jordan or Carrie Underwood if you will just…

I could go on and on.

Sadly there are conniving evil people that enslave others to habit-forming substances that produce a pleasurable sensation for a time, followed by a long period of darkness after dropping into the abyss. The extent of evil in the world is immeasurable.

Everyone at some time or another feels guilty for doing something wrong; even if they didn’t know what it is that they did that was wrong. People want to get rid of that guilt. People want to feel good and they resort to all sorts of tactics that they think will bring them that feeling.

The end result is that they usually feel worse off than before.

Alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, cutting, tattoos, piercings, overeating, pain infliction, sexual deviancy, pornography, power grabbing, anger, misuse of money and any other form of abuse always leads down a negative path. It does produce a feeling, although a negative one, and a feeling is what people are looking for. Yet how often have you seen a person switch one vice for another?

But it is not a feeling of peace and happiness, it’s just a feeling.

In a world that claims a million things, let me make this provable one (I will show you how to prove it to yourself in a moment): I know that God lives that we are his children. He has created this earth and made it possible for us to gain this physical body and to learn things we could not learn while in his presence. Our spirit was in his presence in our pre-mortal life. That spirit remembers and longs for the peace and love that emanated from him. In our current condition we are far away from him, yet at times may feel gentle whisperings of a sweet spirit urging us to make the right decisions and move closer to him.

He has given us His commandments and teachings whereby if we follow them, he blesses us with peace. When we don’t follow them we feel a sense of guilt. To the degree we have broken his commandments is how we can measure the depth of our pain.

Many people have searched for ways to remove that guilt through meditation, success books, churches, coaching sessions, service to others, patches, potions, adrenaline highs, being in nature, and a host of other methods that all produce some measure of peace, but it is short-lived and incomplete.

I have found the way to remove that guilt and feel complete and total peace and happiness. Yes, there is only one way and you may or may not like this answer but it is the truth. Please let me share with you this answer.

Since I know that God lives and that we are his children, it would not make sense that he has left us completely alone. We may not see him right now or remember what it was like to live with him before we were born, but the fact is we did. We did see him and we did live with him before and our spirit recognizes the truth when it is taught correctly. He knows us better than we know ourselves and has placed us here on this earth to gain these experiences.

The Bible reveals that Adam and Eve walked and talked with God and knew him personally. God spoke to them and gave them commandments, teachings, and education far more than most of us realize. There was neither a Big Bang nor Evolution that produced all of this out of nothing. The Universe is Infinite and has always existed and was not created in 7 days (more on the topic of creation vs. evolution here.) You and I are infinite beings. There was no “chance” involved in this purposeful design. Our Earth was created in 14 periods of “time” (the length of which we do not know), in the presence of God (not here), and then placed here in this Solar System with Adam and Eve as our first parents.

Over time as the Devil began to sway many of the children of our first parents away from God, this action in essence removed all of us from His presence. But as mentioned, He has not left us alone but has spoken through prophets both in the past and today. No other people throughout the history of the earth have needed to hear his voice more than we do today. I testify that there is a prophet of God on earth today and that His priesthood power is fully functioning right now.

When Jesus organized his church almost 2000 years ago he set it up with a very specific pattern of Prophets and Apostles. Jesus performed the atonement for all of us so that we, if we would repent, would not suffer what he suffered. The Church He instituted had the authority to perform those ordinances that made that atonement applicable to them. When Jesus went to be baptized he did not go to the church leaders of his day but to John the Baptist, the only person in and around Jerusalem who had the authority to baptize him. When the apostles were killed, the authority to perform ordinances (like baptism) was also removed. Just like after Adam’s day there was a great apostasy because of wickedness, there was also an apostasy after the death of Christ’s chosen leaders and revelation was withdrawn from the earth.

It was prophesied in the Bible that there would be a restoration of all things: prophets, priesthood, authority, revelation, scripture, missionary work, etc. and that God would be in charge of it all. That restoration began with the earnest prayer of a young 14-year-old boy named Joseph Smith who was confused about all the different doctrines and teachings of the churches of his day. He went to a grove of trees near his father’s home and knelt in prayer seeking guidance from Heavenly Father. What followed was one of the most marvelous revelations ever given: a visit of God the Father and his son Jesus Christ, two separate and distinct individuals who cared about him and came in answer to his request. This revelation was needed because no one in the whole world understood the true nature of God and who he really is and they worshiped all sorts of other notions about god.

Over the next several years many things were restored and re-instituted on the earth and we should give great honor to those reformers like Calvin, Wesley, Luther and others who got it all started. While all churches have some truth and should be supported in their desire to share it, the fullness of the Gospel has been restored and the invitation is to all bring their truths with them and learn of the new revelations that have come. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a major aspect of that restoration prophesied of years ago (there are still more things to come). It has all of the authority to perform the saving ordinances (just as John the Baptist did) to baptize people for the remission of sins and remove the guilt that they feel, if they are honest in their desire for change.

I have seen hundreds of people baptized through this authorized system and have witnessed the astounding results. It’s like these people have come out of a cave in which they lived for their entire life and been brought out into the brightness of the noonday sun. Their whole lives have been changed, they feel wonderful and peaceful and happy. They no longer want to be the person they were and are trying to be more like their Savior. They have overcome habits, have a desire to serve others and they want to be a contributing member of society and to lift and edify all they come in contact with. They have truly been Born Again and now have a new father; their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Its like they are filled with Light!

I know this feeling personally and want to share it with the entire world. It is like nothing else because nothing else can even come close. I want to lift and edify the world and show them what I have learned through the marvelous restoration of new revelations from God to his prophets. I want to share with people a little bit about who they are, where they came from, why they are here and where they are going after they die. I want to do my part to make the world a better place and that’s why I have taken the time and energy to write this article and share it with all who will listen.

I know that God lives. I know the Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know there is a prophet on the earth today and that the Book of Mormon is proof that the word of God has been restored on the earth and that it goes hand-in-hand with the Bible of old. If someone truly believes the Bible they will believe the Book of Mormon. It may seem like it is easier to believe in a dead prophet of old, but belief in the current prophet is more important because he speaks God’s words today. While I love the Bible and read it almost everyday, the Book of Mormon was given to you personally to test it for yourself whether God speaks today or has forgotten you and me and all mankind.

Here is how you can prove it to yourself. I invite you to test my words by reading the Book of Mormon and praying to God in the name of Jesus Christ to know for yourself if it is true. Be open to the feelings you have. Don’t deny it but let it grow and over time (everyone is different as to the length) you will come to know it is true. Once you know it is true, then you know that everything I have said is also true and you will know where to go to find peace: a feeling of peace in a world of confusion and noise. A removal of all guilt and anguish. A feeling of Love, Light, and Hope for the future. It’s all wonderful and powerfully real.
